Direct Debit Services – Cancellation Failed
In case even after cancelling a direct debit service, if money is still deducted, then the customer can take care of the following steps: 1. the customer should have informed about the cancellation to the bank or the building society where he had the account. If the customer had just informed the organization that deducts the amount about cancellation, then it is likely that the cancellation is not effective. It is always better to inform the bank about the cancellation and then a copy of the cancellation letter can be sent to the organization also. 2. It is important to note the date of the request made for the cancellation. Every bank usually requires at least a day’s notice to effect the cancellation before the due date. Before placing the request for cancellation, the customer has to check with their bank about how many days will the bank take for cancelling the service. Accordingly the customer has to request. Even after checking with the bank and placing the request in advance, amount is directly debited then the bank should refund the amount to the customer as per the direct debit collection guarantee. 3. Even after following these steps if the bank doesn’t refund, then the customer can again contact them in writing or can finally call the Bacs helpline.
